Mkt may fall more near term; Nifty 50 may test 25500

MUMBAI – The Nifty 50 may fall to the 25500-25450 levels in the next few sessions as investors may continue to book profits, but the view in the longer run remains positive, analysts said. The 50-stock index is expected to move in a range of 25450-25800 points in the upcoming sessions. The market will be shut on the occassion of Guru Nanak Jayanti on Wednesday.

 

"A shorter chart frame is indicating a little more pain up to 25500-25450 spot levels (for the Nifty 50) but larger chart frames are still strong by the time it is holding above 25350 spot levels...options data showing negative sentiments with a put-call ratio of 0.7 for next week expiry (of the Nifty 50 derivatives)," said Vipin Kumar, assistant vice-president, derivatives and technical, Globe Capital Market. "26850 is the immediate resistance levels, sustenance above the same will once again instigate the buying momentum."


"The RSI (relative strength index) indicates weak price momentum with a bearish crossover...if the (Nifty 50) index falls below 25590, the correction may extend towards 25500–25525," Rupak De, senior technical analyst at LKP Securities, said in a note. On Tuesday, the Nifty 50 ended at 25597.65 points, down 165.70 points or 0.6%. The Sensex closed at 83459.15 points, down 519.34 points or 0.6%. Both indices closed at a two-week low. 

 

Nifty 50 constituents Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Grasim Industries will release their September quarter earnings on Wednesday. Sun Pharma is expected to report a 3% on-year fall in its consolidated net profit for the September quarter, but its top line is likely to see healthy on-year growth. Grasim Industries is expected to post a modest year-on-year rise in its net profit for the quarter on the back of strong revenue growth in its core segments. Aurobindo Pharma, Astral, Tube Investments of India, and Britannia Industries will also report their quarterly earnings during the day. 

 

On Thursday, the likes of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, ABB India, Mankind Pharma, Godrej Properties, Lupin, Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Co., Life Insurance Corp. of India, Bajaj Housing Finance, UPL, Zydus Lifesciences, NHPC, and Cummins India are scheduled to report their quarterly numbers.  End
