MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India Saturday said it received INR 670 million of the withdrawn INR 2,000 currency notes in October. As such, the total value of INR 2,000 banknotes in circulation has declined to INR 58.17 billion as of Friday, with 98.35% of such notes out of circulation, the RBI said in a release.

 

On May 19, 2023, the central bank had withdrawn banknotes of INR 2,000 denomination from circulation. These notes remain legal tender. Currently, the facility to deposit or exchange the notes is only open at the RBI's 19 issue offices.  End
