MUMBAI – Tata Motors Ltd., formerly TML Commercial Vehicles Ltd., reported a near 10% on-year increase in total commercial vehicle sales in October to 37,530 units, marking the highest monthly sales since March. This was driven by a strong on-year growth in both domestic sales as well as exports.

Domestic commercial vehicle sales in October grew over 7% on year and nearly 6% from the previous month to 35,108 units. This was also the highest sales volume since March. Its commercial vehicle exports in October jumped over 56% on year to 2,422 units, but it was lower than the 2,714 units exported in September.

Sales of heavy trucks grew over 7% on year to 10,737 units and despatches of intermediate, light, and medium trucks grew nearly 6% on year to 6,169 units. Despatches of passenger carriers rose 12% on year to 3,184 units and those of small cargo and pick-up vehicles rose over 7% to 15,018 units.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., earlier called Tata Motors, demerged its commercial vehicle business last month into TML Commercial Vehicles. With this, the name of TML Commercial Vehicles Ltd. was changed to Tata Motors Ltd. Accordingly, this entity will now house only the commercial vehicle business and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles will house the passenger vehicles business.

For the June quarter, Tata Motors, now Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, had reported a consolidated net profit of INR 39.24 billion on revenue of INR 1.04 trillion. On Friday, shares of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles closed 0.6% lower on the National Stock Exchange, at INR 410.  End
