MUMBAI – Ashok Leyland Ltd. sold 17,820 automobile units to dealerships in India and abroad in October, up over 16% on year, it said in an exchange filing Saturday. Sales of commercial vehicles of Ashok Leyland fell from 18,813 units sold in September. 

 

Overall sales of medium-to-heavy tonnage commercial vehicles in India and abroad grew over 15.5% on year to 10,865 units. Of this, domestic sales accounted for 9,611 units, up 13.9% on year. Sales of medium-to-heavy tonnage trucks saw 10.76% on-year increase in October to 8,257 units, of which 7,972 units were sold domestically. However, overall sales of medium-to-heavy tonnage trucks were down over 10% from September. On the other hand, bus sales grew 33.5% on year in October to 2,608 units. Domestic bus sales grew at a slightly slower pace, at 33.4% on year, to 1,639 units.

 

Despatches of light commercial vehicles, which form around 38% of Ashok Leyland's overall automobile sales, grew nearly 18% to 6,955 units in October. The company reported a 19% on-year growth in its light commercial vehicle sales in India to 6,703 units last month.

 

The company despatched 111,174 commercial vehicles to dealerships in India and abroad in Apr-Oct, up 6% on year. In India, the company has sold 101,873 units in the financial year so far, up 4% from the year-ago period. Ashok Leyland sold 69,654 commercial vehicles with medium-to-heavy tonnage in Apr-Oct, up 6% on year. In the same period, it sold 41,520 light commercial vehicles, 6% higher than a year ago.

 

For the June quarter, Ashok Leyland reported a net profit of INR 5.94 billion on revenues of INR 87.25 billion. On Friday, shares of the company ended 0.5% higher at INR 141.53 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
