Coal India Oct sales decline 6% on year, production falls 10%

MUMBAI – Coal India Ltd.'s sales fell nearly 6% on year to 58.3 million tonnes in October, according to the provisional data released by the company Saturday. The company's production in October fell nearly 10% on year to 56.4 million tonnes. For Apr-Oct, its production declined 4.5% on year to 385.5 million tonnes and its offtake fell over 2% to 415.3 million tonnes, the company said. 

 

Its largest subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. reported the highest provisional coal production for the month at 16.6 million tonnes in October, but it down 12.5% on year. The subsidiary's sales were largely steady on year at 18.2 million tonnes.

 

South Eastern Coalfields Ltd., another Coal Indai subsidiary, recorded the second-highest provisional coal production for October at 12.2 million tonnes, down over 2% on year. The company's sales were down 6.5% on year at 12.9 million tonnes. Another subsidiary, Northern Coalfields Ltd., recorded 12 million tonnes of provisional coal output in October, down over 7% on year. The company's offtake during the month was 10.8 million tonnes, down 9% on year.

 

Eastern Coalfields Ltd. reported an on-year rise in both production and offtake, while the rest reported an on-year decline. Both is coal production and sales were at 3.6 million tonnes in October, up 7% on year.    

 

Coal India reported a consolidated net profit of INR 43.54 billion for the quarter ended September on a revenue of INR 301.87 billion. On Friday, shares of the company closed slightly higher at INR 388.65 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
