MUMBAI – India and the US have signed a 10-year defence framework which will "usher in a new era in our already strong defence partnership", India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in a social media post on X Friday. Both countries signed this pact on the sidelines of the 12th ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting–Plus in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
"This Defence Framework will provide policy direction to the entire spectrum of the India-US Defence Relationship. It is a signal of our growing strategic convergence and will herald a new decade of partnership," Singh said.
In a separate post on X, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said, "This (10-year US-India Defence Framework) advances our defence partnership, a cornerstone for regional stability and deterrence." This development came at a time when Indian exports to the US continue to attract a 50% tariff.
"Defence will remain as a major pillar of our bilateral relations," Singh said. "Our partnership is critical for ensuring a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific region." End
