India receives 158% above normal rainfall at 29.6 mm in week to Wed - IMD

MUMBAI – India received 29.6 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 158?ove the normal of 11.5 millimetres for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. Multiple weather systems over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea caused excess rainfall across the country, with more than half of the 32 subdivisions recording "large excess" rainfall during the week.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 20 recorded "large excess" rainfall in the week ended Wednesday. Rainfall was "excess" in two, "normal" in two, "deficient" in three, and "large deficient" in seven, according to the data. Two subdivisions did not get any rainfall during the week.
Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, one received below-normal rainfall, while three received above-normal rainfall, according to the data. In east and north east India, rainfall was 47?low normal at 7.3 millimetres, the data showed.
In northwest India, rainfall was 289?ove normal at 7.8 millimetres. Central India recorded 33.4 millimetres of rain during the week, 377?ove normal. Of the 10 subdivisions in central India, nine received "large excess" rainfall during the week. In the southern peninsula, rainfall was 136?ove normal at 75.6 millimetres, according to the data. Of the 10 subdivisions in southern India, eight received "large excess" rainfall in the week, the weather department said.
From Oct. 1–Oct. 29, the country received 101.0 millimetres of rainfall, 39?ove the normal of 72.7 millimetres for the period, the data showed. End
