MUMBAI – Hexaware Technologies Ltd. late Monday said allegations made against it by US-based company Natsoft Corp. and its affiliate company Updraft LLC in a patent breach lawsuit are without merits. Natsoft sued Hexaware in the US for $500 million. Hexaware said the lawsuit won't have any material financial or operational impact on its business, it said in an exchange filing.

"Intellectual property disputes are an inevitable part of the technology industry's relentless pace of innovation. Many successful service providers have faced patent claims as they pioneered new solutions and transformed markets," Chief Executive Officer Srikrishna Ramakarthikeyan said in an exchange filing. "Our platforms are the result of original engineering, and we'll stay focused on delivering value," he said.

Natsoft alleged that Hexaware's modernisation platforms illegaly incorporate the former's patented technologies, according to media reports. However, Hexaware has argued that the company developed these platforms after significant financial investment and years of in-house research and development. "These products offer far more advanced functionalities than those claimed in the patents implicated in the lawsuit, and they do not infringe upon any Natsoft or third-party intellectual property rights," the Mumbai-based company said.

For the June quarter, Hexaware Tech reported a net profit of INR 3.80 billion on revenues of INR 32.61 billion. On Monday, its shares closed 1.6% higher at INR 736.90 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
