MUMBAI – Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd.'s earnings for the September quarter surpassed analysts' expectations, with the company's year-on-year growth in consolidated revenue highest in nine quarters. Growth in its revenue was primarily driven by the expansion in its electric vehicle traction motor and railway business in India, the company said.
The company reported a 20% on-year jump in its consolidated net profit to INR 1.73 billion in the September quarter. Sequentially, net profit rose nearly 39%. Analysts had estimated the company's bottom line at INR 1.56 billion.
Its revenue from operations increased by over 23% year-on-year basis to INR 11.38 billion. Analysts had pegged the quarterly revenue at INR 10.43 billion. The company's battery-electric vehicle segment's revenue declined 17% year on year to INR 2.65 billion, accounting for 32% of total automotive product sales.
Sona BLW's total expenses rose by over 25% on year to INR 9.31 billion, mostly due to a rise in the cost of materials consumed by INR 1.6 billion. The company's tax outgo increased by over 18% on year to INR 571 million.
The company reported a 13% year-on-year growth in its earnings before interest, tax, amortisation, and depreciation to INR 2.89 billion, but its EBITDA margin declined to 25.3% from 27.6% a year ago.
The company won an order worth INR 2.60 billion to supply differential assembly from its plant in Mexico. It will supply the products to an original equipment manufacturer of recreational off-highway vehicles in the US. Sona BLW will start production for the US client in the September quarter of 2027-28 (Apr-Mar).
The new order brought the company's net order book as of Sept. 30 to INR 236 billion, down from INR 262 billion at the end of the June quarter. Of the current order book, 70% of orders are from its electric vehicle programs.
The company's revenue from operations rose 9.9% on year to INR 19.92 billion in Apr-Sept, while the bottom line increased 4.1% to INR 2.97 billion.
Monday, shares of the company closed 1.1% higher at INR 483.85 on the National Stock Exchange. The company declared the September-quarter results after market hours. End
