MUMBAI – The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has clarified that restrictions imposed in September on import of silver jewellery will not be applicable on imports by 100% export oriented units and units located in special economic zones. However, such imported goods cannot be sold in the domestic tariff area, it said in a release Monday.
The DGFT said import of silver jewellery under the Advance Authorisation or Duty-Free Import Authorisation schemes shall also be exempt from these restrictions.
On Sept. 24, the DGFT had shifted import of some types of jewellery from free to restricted category. End
