MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over parts of Andhra Pradesh from Monday to Wednesday. A red alert indicates rainfall exceeding 204.4 millimetres in 24 hours and is the highest level of weather warning. The department has also issued a red alert for Odisha on Tuesday and Wednesday.
It has issued an orange alert for very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Karnataka on Monday. An orange alert is issued when rainfall exceeds 115.6 millimetres and goes up to 204.4 millimetres. Very heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha from Monday to Wednesday and over Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, the weather bureau said. It sees heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala till Tuesday and coastal Karnataka on Monday and Tuesday, and very heavy rainfall over Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Sunday.
The bureau also expects light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in some places with heavy rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from Wednesday to Friday. Heavy rainfall is likely over east Rajasthan on Monday and light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected over east and southwest Rajasthan from Sunday to Tuesday. End
