MUMBAI – The Nifty Bank's momentum next week is expected to be dictated by a slew of earnings, including Kotak Mahindra Bank on Saturday, analysts said. "Markets on Monday would react to the quarterly result of banking heavyweight Kotak Mahindra Bank, to be announced over the weekend. Overall, we expect Indian equities to remain rangebound, tracking global cues, upcoming Q2 (Jul-Sept) results and macro-economic data. FII (foreign institutional investor) inflows and upbeat management commentary could help sustain positive market momentum, though intermittent profit booking cannot be ruled out. Meanwhile, any progress on the India-US trade deal front could further uplift investor sentiments," Siddhartha Khemka - Head of Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd. said.

The Nifty Bank index rose 0.3% in a festival-truncated week and closed at 57699.60 points on Friday, with all but one of its constituents ending in the red. ICICI Bank shares, which rose 1%, were the sole gainer on Friday. On the other hand, Kotak Mahindra Bank fell the most before its earnings, ending 1.7% lower.

The country's fourth-largest private-sector bank is seen posting a net profit of INR 33.38 billion for the September quarter, broadly unchanged from the year-ago quarter, according to the average of estimates from 10 brokerage firms. The lender's bottom line is expected to rise nearly 2% sequentially.

Investors remain watchful of developments in the India-US trade negotiations, as both sides edge closer to finalising a deal, analysts said. Global market sentiment will largely hinge on key interest rate decisions from the US Federal Reserve and European Central Bank by next week, which are expected to influence market direction in the near term, they said.

"Bank Nifty on the weekly chart has formed a high wave candle with a higher high and higher low signalling consolidation amid stock-specific action after the recent sharp up move," Bajaj Broking Research said. "Going forward, the index is expected to consolidate with positive bias, with immediate supports placed at 57,300-57500 levels being the last week's breakout area and a stronger demand zone is seen near 56,800-56,500 levels."
