India Sept crude steel output up 13% on year, says World Steel Association

MUMBAI – Production of crude steel in India rose over 13% on year to 13.6 million tonnes in September, according to data from the World Steel Association. India accounted for around 10% of the global steel output in September.

 

Global crude steel output in September fell nearly 2% on year to 141.8 million tonnes. India, the US, Turkey, and Iran reported a rise in output among the top 10 steel-producing countries while China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Germany, and Brazil reported a fall in production.


China, the world's largest steel producer, reported an output of 73.5 million tonnes last month, down nearly 5% on year. The country accounted for around 52% of global production. In Japan, crude steel output fell around 4% on year to 6.4 million tonnes in September. Production in Russia is estimated to have fallen around 4% to 5.2 million tonnes.

 

The US produced 6.9 million tonnes of steel in September, up nearly 7% on year. Steel output in Turkey was up over 3% at 3.2 million tonnes. Steel production in Germany declined slightly to 3.0 million tonnes in September. Crude steel production in Brazil fell over 3% on year to 2.8 million tonnes while production in Iran rose 6% on year to 2.3 million tonnes.

 

Global crude steel production in Jan-Sept fell nearly 2% on year to 1.4 billion tonnes while output in India jumped about 11% to 122.4 million tonnes in the same period.  End
