--Govt: Defence panel clears proposals worth INR 790 bln for armed forces

NEW DELHI – The Defence Acquisition Council Thursday approved various proposals for the Indian armed forces worth INR 790 billion, the Ministry of Defence said. The panel approved the procurement of Nag Missile System (Tracked) Mk-II, landing platform docks, advanced lightweight torpedoes, and collaborative long range target saturation and destruction system.

The panel also approved the procurement of Ground Based Mobile ELINT (Electronic Intelligence system) System and High Mobility Vehicles for the Indian army, along with the Nag Missile System. "The procurement of NAMIS (Nag Missile System) (Tracked) will enhance the Indian Army's capability of neutralising enemy's combat vehicles, bunkers & other field fortifications, whereas GBMES (Ground Based Mobile ELINT System) will provide round-the-clock Electronic Intelligence of enemy emitters," the ministry said in a release. 

For the Indian Navy, the panel approved the procurement of 30 millimeters Naval Surface Gun and Electro Optical Infra-Red Search and Track System and Smart Ammunition for 76 mm Super Rapid Gun Mount.  End
