Govt to check edible oil units to ensure compliance with amended norm on ops

NEW DELHI – The Department of Food and Public Distribution will conduct inspections at edible oil units to ensure that
manufacturers, processors, blenders, and re-packers file their monthly returns as mandated under a recently amended order, the department said in a release Wednesday. It also warned that non-compliance with the order will invite strict action.
In August, the government had amended the Vegetable Oil Products, Production and Availability (Regulation) Order, 2025, making it mandatory for all edible oil industry stakeholders to register and submit monthly returns through the National Single Window System portal. Under the order, edible oil units must provide details about the use, production, sale, and stocks during the previous month.
"Compliance with the amended order is not just a regulatory requirement, it is a critical contribution to India's food security infrastructure. The initiative supports better planning, informed decision-making, and fosters a more efficient and transparent edible oil ecosystem," the release said.
The department said that monthly filings will enable accurate data collection and real-time monitoring for better policy interventions. It also said that a "significant number of edible oil units" across the country have already registered on the portal and are regularly submitting their monthly returns. End
