India Sept natural gas output down 4% YoY; LNG imports up 1% on year

NEW DELHI – India produced 2.9 billion standard cubic metres of natural gas in September, down around 4% on year, according to data released by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell. Gross production of natural gas in Apr-Sept was 17.6 billion standard cubic metres, down 3.2% from a year ago.
In September, India imported 2.8 billion standard cubic metres of liquefied natural gas, up over 1% on year. For Apr-Sept, the report showed India imported 16.9 billion standard cubic metres of LNG, down over 11% from a year ago. The imports in September amounted to $1.2 billion, unchanged from the year-ago period. In Apr-Sept, India imported LNG worth $6.8 billion, down from $7.6 billion a year ago, the report said.
Lower domestic output of gas resulted in higher import dependency. The country's import dependence rose to 50.0% in September from 48.7% in the year-ago period, the data showed. Meanwhile, the country's consumption of natural gas in September declined 1.4% on year to 5.6 billion standard cubic metres and consumption of natural gas in Apr-Sept fell nearly 7% to 34.3 billion standard cubic metres, the data showed.
