JSW Steel board OKs 1 mtpa electric arc furnace project in Kadapa

NEW DELHI - Steel major JSW Steel said Friday its board has approved setting up a 1 million tonne per year electric arc furnace project in Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh. The company has set the end of 2028-29 (Apr-Mar) as the target for completing the project. The new factory will "include a section mill to produce structural steel, widely used in the construction and infrastructure sectors, supporting the transition from concrete to steel-intensive buildings," the company said.
Giving an update on its downstream capacities and capabilities, JSW Steel said the board has also approved a 1 million tonne per year "section mill at the Raigarh plant for structural steel production, and facilities at Salem for bearings and high-end niche grade steel."
The company also said that with a second converter commissioned in August by its subsidiary JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd. in the 5 million tonne per year hot strip mill project at Vijayanagar, the project has now been "fully commissioned."
JSW Steel announced its September quarter earnings Friday. The company's consolidated net profit jumped 3.7 times on year to INR 16.2 billion, while the revenue from operations rose 14% on year to INR 451.5 billion. Friday, shares of JSW Steel ended at INR 1,163.30 on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.8% from the previous close. End. End
