HYDERABAD - The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted a 400-megawatt solar power project to Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd., a subsidiary of Tata Power Co. Ltd., which will be set up in Beluguppa mandal of the Anantapur district, a source in the state energy department told Informist. The company estimates an investment of up to INR 20 billion for the project, which is expected to be completed within two years from the date of approval.
The state government has issued orders approving the project along with offering various incentives under its AP Integrated Clean Energy Policy-2024. Tata Power Renewable Energy will procure around 2,000 acres on lease from the government as well as private individuals for the project, at a rate of INR 31,000 per acre per year, which will increase by 5% every two years. The company is eligible to claim waiver of stamp duty, electricity charges and other incentives as per the policy.
The project is an independent one with no binding of a power purchase agreement with the state utilities. The company can sell power generated from this plant in the open market, but the state distribution companies have a right to take up to 30% of the energy produced from the plant. Andhra Pradesh is aiming to add over 160 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2029.
For the June quarter, Tata Power reported a consolidated net profit of INR 10.6 billion on revenue of INR 180.35 billion. At 1140 IST, the company's shares traded at INR 399.75 on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.8% from its previous close. End
