India receives 25% below normal rainfall at 13.3 mm in week to Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 13.3 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 25% below the normal of 17.8 millimetres for the period, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Oct. 1–Oct. 15, the country received 58.4 millimetres of rainfall, 27% above the normal of 46.1 millimetres for the fortnight, the data showed.
Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, rainfall was above normal in one region and below normal in three regions, according to the data. In southern India, rainfall was 19% above normal at 39.8 millimetres, the data showed.
In northwest India, rainfall was 88% below normal at 0.7 millimetres. East and northeast India recorded 20 millimetres of rainfall in the week ended Wednesday, 33% below normal. Central India received 6.2 millimetres of rainfall, 54% below normal, as per the data.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall for the week ended Wednesday was "large excess" in three, "excess" in three, "normal" in three, "deficient" in eight, and "large deficient" in 17, according to the data. Two sub-divisions recorded no rainfall during the week. End
