NEW DELHI – The India Meteorological Department has said conditions are favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from the remaining parts of the country during the next two days. In the same period, the onset of the northeast monsoon is expected over southeast peninsular India, the weather department said. This comes on the back of the setting of easterly and northeasterly winds over south peninsular India and central Bay of Bengal, it said.
The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from some more parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and remaining parts of northeast India as of Tuesday, the department said. The line of withdrawal currently passes through Karwar and Kalaburagi in Karnataka, Nizamabad in Telangana, Kanker in Chhattisgarh, and Chandbali in Odisha. The southwest monsoon usually begins withdrawing from the country around Sept. 17 and withdraws from the entire country around Oct. 15.
Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal, light to moderate rainfall coupled with a few spells of heavy rainfall are likely over Tamil Nadu and Kerala till Monday. Similar weather conditions are likely over parts of south interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema till Thursday.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand, which is likely to cause thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km per hour over parts of east and central India till Thursday, the weather department said. Similar weather conditions are expected over parts of central Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa till Friday, and over Marathwada till Thursday. End
