India receives 41% below normal rainfall at 1.4 mm Monday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 1.4 millimetres of rainfall Monday, 41% below the normal of 2.3 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. During Oct. 1–13, the country has received 56.2 millimetres of rainfall, 35% above normal for the period, data from the weather bureau showed.
Of the four homogenous regions in the country, one received above normal rainfall while three recorded below-normal showers. Southern India recorded 5.4 millimetres of rainfall, which is 17% above normal, the data showed.
There was no rainfall in northwest India Monday. Rainfall in eastern and northeast India was 82% below normal at 0.6 millimetres. Central India recorded 69% below normal showers at 0.6 millimetres. As of Monday, the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from most parts of central India and from northwest India entirely. It has also retreated from some parts of east and northeast India and southern India.
Of the 36 subdivisions, 21 did not record rainfall Monday, while it was "large excess" in one, "excess" in two, "normal" in three, "deficient" in three, and "large deficient" in six. End
