India receives 27% below normal rainfall of 1.8 mm Sunday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 1.8 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 27% below the normal of 2.4 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Oct. 1–12, the country received 54.8 millimetres of rainfall, 40% above normal for the period, data from the weather bureau showed.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received below normal rainfall on Sunday, while one recorded above normal showers. East and northeast India recorded 60% above normal rainfall at 5 millimetres.
Rainfall in northwest India was 99% below normal, as none of the nine subdivisions recorded any rainfall on Sunday, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 35% below normal at 1.2 millimetres. South peninsular India recorded 2.9 millimetres of rainfall, which was 35% below normal, the data showed.
Of the 36 sub-divisions, 15 sub-divisions did not receive any rainfall on Sunday, while rainfall was "large excess" in six, "normal" in one, "deficient" in four, and "large deficient" in 10. End
