E-way bills' generation rises to record high of 132 mln in Sept

NEW DELHI – The number of e-way bills generated rose to an all-time high of 132.01 million in September, up 21.0% on year, according to data from the Goods and Services Tax Network. Sequentially, the number of e-way bills generated rose 2.2% from 129.14 million in August.
At 21.0%, the on-year growth in generation of e-way bills in September was the slowest in three months. An e-way bill is a GST document for transport of goods worth more than INR 50,000 within or outside a state. The number of e-way bills generated is considered a lead indicator of economic activity and domestic trade.
An increase in e-way bills generally suggests GST collections would be robust the following month as most transactions are reflected in the next month's collections. GST collections rose 9.1% on year to INR 1.89 trillion in September, data released earlier this month showed. End
