TCS headcount falls by 19,500 in Jul-Sept, highest-ever sequential decline

MUMBAI – Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. Thursday said its total headcount at the end of the September quarter was 593,314, falling by over 19,500 employees from a quarter ago. This is the highest-ever decline in TCS' headcount in a quarter. The total headcount at the end of the reporting quarter was close to that reported in the March quarter of 2022, when total number of employees was 592,195. 

 

However, its voluntary attrition of the last twelve months was 13.3%, the company said in a fact sheet following the release of its September quarter results. This is lower than the 13.8% attrition rate reported a quarter ago. 

 

TCS' order book total contract value was $10 billion in the September quarter, with orders under its North America business at $4.3 billion. The North America business accounts for almost half of the information technology company's overall revenue. Of the total contract value, orders under its core segment--banking, financial services and insurance--was $3.2 billion and that of consumer business was $1.8 billion.  

 

For the quarter ended September, the company's consolidated net profit fell over 5% sequentially to INR 120.75 billion, but revenue rose nearly 4% to INR 657.99 billion. TCS released its quarterly results after market hours Thursday. Ahead of the earnings, its shares closed 1.1% higher at INR 3,061.70 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
