Coal ministry issues vesting orders for 5 commercially auctioned blocks

MUMBAI – The nominated authority in the Ministry of Coal issued vesting orders for five coal blocks under commercial coal block auctions Wednesday, according to a press release from the ministry. The five coal blocks are Tandsi III and Tandsi III Extension, Senduri, West of Tubed, Chitarpur and Phutamura, according to the release.

 

The Coal Mine Development and Production Agreements for these blocks were signed on Aug. 21. Among these five blocks, four are partially explored and one block is fully explored, having a peak rated capacity of around 3.45 million tonnes per annum and geological reserves of about 1.56 billion tonnes. These blocks are expected to generate an annual revenue of around INR 3.60 billion and attract capital investment of around INR 5.17 billion, the release said. They are also projected to create employment opportunities for nearly 4,664 people, both directly and indirectly, it said.

 

With the issuance of these vesting orders, a total of 125 coal blocks have now been vested or allocated under commercial coal auctions. Collectively, these blocks account for a cumulative peak rated capacity of around 265.84 million tonnes per annum, which is estimated to generate annual revenue of approximately INR 374.63 billion and provide employment to nearly 359,400 people directly and indirectly, according to the release.  End
