India receives 18% below normal rainfall of 2.5 mm Wednesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 2.5 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday, 18% below the normal of 3.1 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Since Oct. 1, the country has received 45.2 millimetres of rainfall, 60% above normal for the period, data from the weather bureau showed.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received below normal rainfall while only one recorded above-normal showers on Wednesday. Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 685% above normal at 4.7 millimetres, the data showed. All nine subdivisions in the region recorded "large excess" rainfall on Wednesday due to the presence of a western disturbance. Northwest India usually sees dry weather during this time of the year, with the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the region.
East and northeast India recorded 75% below normal rainfall at 1.8 millimetres. South peninsular India received 1.4 millimetres of rainfall, which is 69% below the normal of 4.5 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 44% below normal at 1.6 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall was "large excess" in nine, "normal" in three, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in 14. Three subdivisions did not receive any rainfall. End
