NEW DELHI – Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, and N. Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons Ltd., are likely to meet senior government officials late Tuesday, CNBC-TV18 said in a news report on its website at around 1530 IST, quoting unnamed sources. According to the news report, the government has taken note of escalating tensions within the Tata Trusts, which hold a majority stake in Tata Sons.

Tata and Chandrasekaran "are likely to meet senior government officials later today (Tuesday) to discuss the governance crisis" and concerns that the tussle could affect the functioning of Tata Sons and the broader Tata Group, the news report said. The meeting is expected to include top Cabinet ministers, it said.

Quoting sources, the news report said four trustees, including Darius Khambata, Jehangir H.C. Jehangir, and Mehli Mistry, have tried to undermine Noel Tata's leadership by functioning as a super board. The news report said the alleged overreach included efforts to approve independent directors shortlisted by the nomination and remuneration committee of Tata Sons and to vet the minutes of board meetings. These actions, according to sources, were serious corporate governance lapses, the news report said.  End
