India receives 123% above normal rainfall of 7.6 mm Tuesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 7.6 millimetres of rainfall on Tuesday, 123% above the normal of 3.4 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. During Oct. 1–7, the country has received 42.7 millimetres of rainfall, 69% above normal for the period, data from the weather bureau showed.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two recorded above-normal showers, while two received below-normal rainfall on Tuesday. Northwest India received a startling 2,111% above normal rainfall at 17.7 millimetres, the data showed. Eight out of the nine subdivisions in the region recorded "large excess" rainfall, while one recorded "excess" rainfall. Northwest India usually sees dry weather during this time of the year, with the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the region. However, this year, the presence and intensification of a western disturbance is leading to above-normal rainfall over the region.
Rainfall in central India was 16% above normal at 3.4 millimetres. East and northeast India recorded 74% below normal rainfall at 1.8 millimetres. South peninsular India recorded 3.6 millimetres of rainfall, which was 32% below normal, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall was "large excess" in 13, "excess" in three, "normal" in two, "deficient" in three, and "large deficient" in 14. One subdivision did not receive any rainfall. End
