India receives 76% above normal rainfall of 6.3 mm Monday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 6.3 millimetres of rainfall on Monday, 76% above the normal of 3.6 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. During Oct. 1–6, the country received 35.1 millimetres of rainfall, 61% above normal for the period, data from the weather bureau showed.
All the four homogeneous regions in the country received above normal rainfall on Monday. Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 361% above normal at 5.1 millimetres, the data showed. This is on the back of an intensified western disturbance which is leading to excess rainfall over the region. Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan received "large excess" showers.
East and northeast India recorded 14% above normal rainfall at 7.9 millimetres. Rainfall in central India was 95% above normal at 5.7 millimetres. South peninsular India recorded 8.2 millimetres of rainfall, which was 41% above normal, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall was "large excess" in 16, "excess" in two, "normal" in six, "deficient" in five, and "large deficient" in six. One subdivision did not receive any rainfall. End
