India receives 59% above normal rainfall of 6 mm Sunday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 6 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 59% above the normal of 3.8 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Oct. 1–5, the country received 28.8 millimetres of rainfall, 58% above normal for the period, data from the weather bureau showed. 

 

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received above normal rainfall on Sunday and two below normal. East and northeast India recorded a whopping 208% above normal rainfall at 23.4 millimetres. Rainfall in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim was 1,059% above normal at 103.1 millimetres while it was 838% above normal at 61.9 millimetres in Bihar.

 

Rainfall in northwest India was 66% above normal at 2.3 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 30% below normal at 2.3 millimetres. South peninsular India recorded 4.2 millimetres of rainfall, which was 22% below normal, the data showed.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in four, "normal" in five, "deficient" in five, and "large deficient" in 12. One subdivision did not receive any rainfall.  End
