KOLKATA – Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd. Monday said its consolidated revenue for the September quarter increased 30% on year owing to a robust domestic wedding demand and a strong start to the festival season.
In its quarterly business update submitted to bourses, the jeweller said it operations in India witnessed revenue growth of approximately 31% on year during Jul-Sept. The pent-up demand generated from sales during the Navratri period, which was not part of the base quarter revenue, partially offset the impact of the higher base due to the customs duty reduction in India during Jul-Sept of the last financial year. The quarter recorded a healthy same-store-sales-growth of approximately 16%, the company said.
Its international operations, which accounted for 12% of the consolidated sales during Jul-Sept, recorded a revenue growth of approximately 17% on year. Sales in West Asia increased approximately 10% driven entirely by same-store-sales-growth.
The company's digital-first jewellery platform--Candere--recorded a steep revenue growth of approximately 127% on year, according to the company's business update.
"We are encouraged by the significant improvement in showroom footfalls, web traffic and revenue growth during the recently concluded quarter when compared to the corresponding period in the previous year," the notice said.
During the recently concluded quarter, Kalyan Jewellers launched 15 Kalyan branded showrooms in India, two showrooms in West Asia, and 15 Candere branded showrooms in India. As of Sept. 30, the company had a total of 436 showrooms across India and West Asia. Of this, Kalyan branded showrooms in India were at 300 stores, Kalyan branded stores in West Asia were at 38 units, and Kalyan branded showrooms in the US was two. The Candere brand had a total of 96 showrooms.
Kalyan Jewellers said that the December quarter started off well and it was encouraged by robust footfalls across all of its major markets. "We are upbeat about the ongoing season and are fully prepared with fresh collections, campaigns and launch of 15 more Kalyan showrooms before Diwali," the notice said.
Kalyan Jewellers, which is targeting to reduce its debt, was able to secure approval from the lead bank of its consortium of lenders for the release of real estate collateral pertaining to debt repayment. Subsequently, the company has resumed the next round of debt reduction in line with the target already set for the current financial year.
Friday, shares of Kalyan Jewellers closed 5.8% lower at INR 492.15 on the National Stock Exchange. End
