--IMD: India Oct 1-4 rainfall 22.7 mm, 58?ove normal

MUMBAI – India recorded 6.5 millimetres of rainfall on Saturday, 75% above the normal of 3.7 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Oct. 1–4, the country received 22.7 millimetres of rainfall, 58?ove the normal of 14.4 millimetres, the data showed.

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, rainfall was above normal in three and below normal in one, according to the data. Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 310?ove normal at 4.9 millimetres. This was mainly due to "large excess" rainfall in east Uttar Pradesh, west Rajasthan, and east Rajasthan. While the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from most of northwest India, the presence of a western disturbance is causing heavy to very heavy rainfall over the region.

East and northeast India recorded 15.2 millimetres of rainfall, which was 134?ove the normal of 6.5 millimetres, the data showed. Central India recorded 4.8 millimetres of rainfall, which was 29?ove normal. Rainfall over south India was 12?low normal at 4.7 millimetres.

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Saturday was "large excess" in 10, "excess" in four, "normal" in two, "deficient" in four, and "large deficient" in 15, according to the data. One subdivision did not record any rainfall on Saturday.  End
