India received 89% above normal rainfall at 7 mm on Friday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 7.0 millimetres of rainfall on Friday, 89% above the normal of 3.7 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Oct. 1–3, the country recorded 16.3 millimetres of rainfall, 52% above the normal of 10.7 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received above normal rainfall on Friday, while one recorded below normal showers. Central India recorded 11.1 millimetres of rainfall, a whopping 227% millimetres above the normal of 3.4 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in Saurashtra and Kutch was a startling 2,486% above normal at 18.1 millimetres.
East and northeast India received 104% above normal rainfall at 13 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India recorded 2 millimetres of showers, which was 97% above normal. Rainfall over south India was 52% below normal at 3 millimetres.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 15, "excess" in two, "normal" in two, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in 11, according to the data. End
