Maruti Suzuki delivers cars by rail to Kashmir valley from Manesar plant

MUMBAI – Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. became the first automobile manufacturer to use the Indian Railways to dispatch vehicles into Jammu and Kashmir as it announced Friday the arrival of the first lot of its vehicles there. A train carrying over 100 Maruti Suzuki cars such as the Brezza, Dzire, WagonR, and S-Presso left the company's in-plant railway siding at its plant in Manesar and delivered the cars at the newly opened Anantnag railway station.
"Railway dispatches are central to our logistics strategy," said Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Hisashi Takeuchi in a statement. "The world's highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab river is one such landmark, enabling seamless and efficient connectivity to the Kashmir valley and allowing Maruti Suzuki to better serve customers in the region."
Maruti Suzuki had reported a net profit of INR 37.12 billion for the June quarter on a revenue of INR 384.14 billion. Friday, its shares closed a percent lower at INR 15,806 on the National Stock Exchange. End
