MUMBAI – Nifty Bank is expected to continue its positive momentum next week as measures taken by the Reserve Bank of India during the Monetary Policy Commitee meeting are expected to boost business for banks, analysts said. "PSU Banks advanced, with RBI's recent measures--ECL (expected credit loss) migration from April 2027, lower risk-weights, deposit insurance revamp, and NBFC overlap clarity--strengthening resilience and capital efficiency while supporting credit growth," said Siddhartha Khemka, head of research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd.
The sectoral index rose 2.1% this week and closed at 55589.25 points Friday, with most of its constituents ending in green. AU Small Finance Bank was the top gainer on Friday. The stock rose 2.4%. On other hand, Federal Bank fell the most and was down 0.7%.
In its technical view, Bajaj Broking said, "Bank Nifty continues to demonstrate notable strength over the past 3-4 sessions. The formation of a bullish candle with a higher high and higher low in the daily chart signals continuation of the positive momentum underpinned by strength in large cap banking stocks. The index is now trading above its key 21- and 50-day EMAs (exponential moving averages), currently at 54940 and 55120, respectively, indicating that the short- to medium-term trend remains bullish."
