Hyundai Motor starts passenger vehicle production at Talegaon plant

NEW DELHI – Hyundai Motor India Ltd. Wednesday said it has commenced production of passenger vehicles from its Talegaon plant in Pune, Maharashtra. This unit, previously owned by GM Motors, has an annual production capacity of 170,000 units, the company said in an exchange filing.

 

Including the Talegaon plant, the Creta maker has two manufacturing units in India. Hyundai Motor also operates two integrated manufacturing plants at its Chennai unit. As of Mar. 31, the company's Chennai plant had an annual production capacity of 824,000 units. The company is planning to expand the capacity of the Talegaon unit in phases. The company has a plan to increase the Talegaon unit's capacity to 250,000 units annually by 2028. 

 

Hyundai Motor India manufactured 762,900 cars in FY25, lower than the 787,500 units made in FY24 but significantly higher than the 567,728 units in FY21. The company currently manufactures 14 passenger vehicle models. 

 

"Once operational, this facility will increase our total annual production capacity to 924,000 units, with a further rise to 1,074,000 units upon full-scale operations at Talegaon," the company had said in its Annual Report for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar). Hyundai Motor plans to launch 26 new models and upgrades by FY30--six electric vehicles and 20 internal combustion engine-run vehicles.

 

The company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 13.69 billion for the quarter ended June, on a revenue of INR 161.80 billion. Wednesday, its shares closed around 2% lower at INR 2,537 on the National Stock Exchange. End
