India receives 28% above normal rain in week to Wed at 37.1 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 28% above normal rainfall in the week ended Wednesday at 37.1 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received below-normal showers while two recorded above-normal rainfall during the week.
East and northeast India received 26.3 millimetres of rainfall, 53% below normal for the period. Northwest India received 8.2 millimetres of rainfall, 28% below normal. Central India received a whopping 142% above normal showers at 63.0 millimetres and south India received 46.8 millimetres of rainfall, 18% above normal.
Of the 36 meteorological sub-divisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 15 during the week. Three sub-divisions recorded "excess" rains, one recorded "normal" showers, 11 received "deficient" rainfall, and six subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall during the week. India received 8% above normal rainfall of 937.2 millimetres during the current southwest monsoon, which officially ended on Sept. 30. End
