NEW DELHI – The central government Wednesday released INR 1.02 trillion to states as an extra tranche of share in taxes for October, the finance ministry said. The central government usually releases the monthly instalment to states on the 10th of every month.
This tranche is in addition to the regular instalment that will be released to states on Oct. 10, the ministry said. The move comes in view of the upcoming festival season and to enable states to accelerate capital spending and finance their development and welfare related expenditure, the ministry said.
Till August, the Centre had devolved INR 5.30 trillion to states as their share in taxes, as per the latest data available with the Controller General of Accounts. The government, in its Budget for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), had projected devolution of INR 14.22 trillion to the states in the current year.
The 15th Finance Commission has recommended sharing 41% of central taxes with states. Typically, the devolution is released to states in 14 equal instalments. End
