MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India Wednesday said it received INR 720 million of the withdrawn INR 2,000 currency notes in September. As such, the total value of INR 2,000 banknotes in circulation declined to INR 58.84 billion as of Tuesday, with 98.35% of the notes out of circulation, the RBI said.

 

On May 19, 2023, the central bank had withdrawn banknotes of INR 2,000 denomination from circulation. These notes remain legal tender. Currently, the facility to deposit or exchange the notes is only open at the RBI's 19 issue offices.  End
