Coal India Sept sales decline 1.1% on year, production falls 3.9%

MUMBAI – Coal India Ltd.'s production fell nearly 4% on year to 48.97 milllion tonnes in September, according to the provisional data released by the company Wednesday. The company's offtake in September fell slightly over a percent on year to 53.56 million tonnes. For Apr-Sept, its production declined 3.6% on year to 329.14 million tonnes and its offtake fell over 2% to 356.16 million tonnes, the company said. 

 

Among subsidiaries, its largest subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. recorded the highest provisional coal production and sales in September. Its sales fell 1.4% on year to 16.63 million tonnes, and output was down nearly 13% at 14.43 million tonnes last month. In contrast, South Eastern Coalfields Ltd., another subsidiary of the company, reported a near 11% on-year rise in sales to 12.08 million tonnes and a 6.5% on-year rise in production to 10.75 million tonnes in September. 

 

Bharat Coking Coal Ltd., another subsidiary which had received the Securities and Exchange Board of India's approval for its initial public offering, reported an 18.5% on-year fall in production to 2.12 million tonnes and an over 5% on-year fall in sales to 2.70 million tonnes. Among other subsidiaries, Northern Coalfields Ltd. and Eastern Coalfields Ltd. reported an on-year rise in both production and offtake, while the rest reported an on-year decline.  

 

Coal India reported a consolidated net profit of INR 87.43 billion for the quarter ended June on a revenue of INR 358.42 billion. On Wednesday, shares of the company closed 0.4% lower at INR 388.50 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
