India receives 29% above normal rainfall at 4.5 mm on Wednesday, says IMD

--IMD: India Oct 1 rainfall 4.5 mm, 29% above normal
MUMBAI – India received 4.5 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday, 29% above the normal of 3.5 millimetres, data from the India Meteorological Department showed. Of the four homogenous regions in the country, three recorded above-normal showers while one received below-normal rainfall.
Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 456% above normal at 5.0 millimetres, the data showed. Eight out of the nine subdivisions in the region recorded "large excess" rainfall on Wednesday. Despite the southwest monsoon withdrawing completely from most of northwest India, it is still receiving showers due to the presence of multiple active weather systems over and near the region.
East and northeast India recorded 10.1 millimetres of rainfall, which is 76% above normal, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 2% above normal at 3.3 millimetres. Rainfall in south India was 78% below normal at 1.4 millimetres, according to the data.
Of 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 18, "excess" in one, "normal" in two, "deficient" in one, and "large deficient" in 13. One subdivision received no rainfall on Wednesday. End
