NEW DELHI – The recent cut in goods and services tax rates failed to significantly change wholesale sales figure of Hyundai Motor India Ltd. in September, as domestic sales grew barely 1% on year, according to an exchange filing by the company Wednesday. Despite the domestic lull, its exports performance continued its strong momentum last month, growing to a 33-month high in September.
The Creta maker sold 70,347 cars in September, nearly 10% higher than 64,201 units sold in the same month last year. Domestic sales in September stood at 51,547 units while it exported 18,800 units. On a year-on-year basis, domestic sales grew just around 1%, while exports grew a robust 44%. "HMIL (Hyundai Motor India Ltd.) is witnessing a synergetic alignment of both domestic and export markets now growing in tandem - a true double-engine growth," the company's Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer Tarun Garg said in a release.
Sport utility vehicles contributed just over 72% to the company's India sales in September, registering record high penetration levels for the sub-segment for the company. Sales of Venue grew at a 20-month high of 11,484 units in September.
Hyundai Motor's exports in Apr-Sept grew 17% from the corresponding period last year to 99,540 units. "This synchronized growth of SUVs as well as exports sales underscores HMIL's strategic importance as Hyundai Motor Company's global manufacturing hub - a shining example of Make in India, Made for the World," Garg said.
The company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 13.69 billion for the quarter ended June, on a revenue of INR 161.80 billion. At 1214 IST, its shares traded 2.8% lower at INR 2,511 on the National Stock Exchange. End
