Bajaj Auto's domestic 2-wheeler despatches hit 23-mo high in Sept

NEW DELHI – Bajaj Auto Ltd. in September despatched the highest number of two-wheelers in a month to dealerships in India since October 2023 as it sought to reap the benefits of demand triggered by a cut in goods and services tax from 28% to 18% during the ongoing festival season. Overall, the company sold 510,504 automobile units in September, up nearly 9% on year, registering the strongest growth since September 2024.

 

Domestic automobile sales grew just over 4% on year to 325,252 units in September, while exports grew 18% on year to 185,252 units. The Pune-based automaker sold 430,853 two-wheelers to dealerships in September, up nearly 8% on year. Of this, sales in India stood at 273,188 units – up 5% on year and also sharply up by 96% on month. Companies had held back wholesale sales in India last month in anticipation of the new GST regime, which was applicable from Sept. 22. Exports of Bajaj Auto's two-wheelers grew nearly 12% on year to 157,665 units.

 

The company sold 79,651 commercial vehicles in September, up just over 15% on year and over 14% on month. Of this, domestic sales fell by a percent to 52,064 units but grew nearly 19% on-month. Exports expanded by a rapid 67% on year and nearly 7% on month to 27,587 units in August. 

 

APR-SEPT SALES

Bajaj Auto sold 2.41 million automobile units to dealerships in Apr-Sept, up 4% on year. In this period, domestic sales fell 6% on year to 1.38 million units but exports grew 20% on year to 1.03 million units. 

 

Sales of two-wheelers in India fell 8% on year to 1.13 million units in Apr-Sept. Exports outpaced domestic performance as the company sold 891,858 two-wheelers overseas, up 17% on year. Overall, two-wheeler sales grew 2% on year to 2.02 million units. 

 

Sales of commercial three-wheelers, although a relatively smaller part of Bajaj Auto's profile, have outperformed two-wheeler sales in this financial year so far. In Apr-Sept, Bajaj Auto sold 387,579 commercial vehicles, up 14% on year. 

 

For the quarter ended Jun. 30, Bajaj Auto had reported a net profit of INR 20.96 billion on a revenue of INR 125.84 billion. At 0935 IST, shares of Bajaj Auto traded 1.5% higher on the National Stock Exchange at INR 8,805.  End
