MUMBAI – Very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of east and central India this week, the India Meteorological Department said. Heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh during the same period.
These weather conditions are mainly because of a low pressure area which is likely to form on Wednesday over central parts of the Bay of Bengal. The low pressure is expected to intensify into a depression over the west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal on Thursday, the weather bureau said.
Thunderstorms and gusty winds, with speed reaching 40-50 kilometre per hour, are very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Friday. Thunderstorms and gusty winds, with the speed of 30–40 km per hour, are very likely over Bihar for the next seven days and over West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha till Sunday, the weather department said.
Very heavy rainfall is expected over Assam and Meghalaya on Friday, as per the weather department. Many parts of northeast India are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall during the next 4-5 days. A few places in the region are also likely to see heavy rainfall during the same time period.
Currently, a line of withdrawal of southwest monsoon continues to pass through Veraval and Bharuch in Gujarat, Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, and Jhansi and Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, the department said. Conditions are not favourable for further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon in the next seven days, the department said on Sunday. End
