NEW DELHI – The Directorate General of Trade Remedies has recommended anti-dumping duty on resorcinol imported from China and Japan for a period of five years to prevent dumping of the product and the consequent injury to the domestic industry, according to a government notification. Resorcinol is used as an antiseptic and disinfectant in topical pharmaceutical products in the treatment of skin disorders and infections. 

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies had initiated an investigation in September 2024 to check the scale of injury to the domestic industry due to the cheap imports of the product from the two countries. "...Authority is of the view that imposition of anti-dumping duty is required to offset dumping and injury," the notification said. "Therefore, the authority considers it necessary and recommends imposition of antidumping duty on imports of subject goods from the subject countries."

Following the review, the investigation arm of the commerce ministry recommended an anti-dumping duty to the tune of $6,244 per tonne of resorcinol. As per standard procedure, the finance ministry will take a final call on the anti-dumping duty.  End
