Global alumina production in Aug up 1% on month, says Aluminium Institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production rose 1% on month to 13.30 million tonnes in August, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On a yearly basis, alumina output was up 6% from 12.56 million tonnes.
The average daily global alumina production rose to 429,100 tonnes in August from a revised 425,200 tonnes in July, as per the data. Alumina production in China was 7.98 million tonnes in August, unchanged from a month ago. The country's output, which accounts for nearly 60% of global alumina production, was up around 7% from a year ago, the data showed.
In the Oceania region, alumina output declined slightly on month to 1.47 million tonnes in August. In Africa and Asia excluding China, alumina production rose 5% to 1.32 million tonnes last month. In Europe, production rose 3,000 tonnes to 635,000 tonnes in August and the output in South America rose 58,000 tonnes to 1.1 million tonnes in August, the data showed.
According to the data, global production of primary aluminium was up marginally on month at 6.28 million tonnes in August. At 2009 IST, the most-active October aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was 1.2% higher at INR 258.35 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was 1.1% higher at $2,684.0 per tonne. End
