India receives 33% above normal rainfall at 4.9 mm Monday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 4.9 millimetres of rainfall Monday, 33% above the normal of 3.7 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Monday, the country has received 935.2 millimetres of rainfall this monsoon season, 8% above the normal for the period, according to the data.

 

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, one received above normal rainfall Monday while three recorded below normal showers. Rainfall over south India was 12% below normal at 4.7 millimetres. Central India received intense showers of 10.9 millimetres Monday, a whopping 221% above normal, the data showed. Northwest India recorded 75% below normal rain at 0.3 millimetres. East and northeast India got 80% below normal rains at 1.3 millimetres, as per the data.

 

Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in eight, "excess" in one, "normal" in four, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in 14. Three sub-divisions received no rainfall.  End
