India receives 117% above normal rainfall of 8.3 mm Sunday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 8.3 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, a whopping 117% above the normal of 3.8 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Jun. 1–Sept. 28, the country received 930.3 millimetres of rainfall, 8% above normal for the period, data from the weather bureau showed.
Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, two received above normal rainfall on Sunday, while two recorded below-normal rainfall. Rainfall in central India was a startling 475% above normal at 19.5 millimetres, with nine out of its 10 subdivisions recording 'large excess' rainfall. Rainfall in Marathwada in particular was a whopping 1559% above normal at 56.4 millimetres. South peninsular India recorded 5.7 millimetres of rainfall, which was 9% above normal, the data showed.
Rainfall in northwest India was 82% below normal at 0.2 millimetres, the data showed. Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from most parts of northwest India, with a complete withdrawal from Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand as of Sunday. However, conditions are not favourable for further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon in the next seven days, the weather department said.
East and northeast India recorded 60% below normal rainfall at 3.1 millimetres, data from the department showed.
Of 36 subdivisions of the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 13, "normal" in three, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in nine. Four subdivisions--all in northwest India--received no rainfall. End
