--IMD: India Jun 1-Sept 27 rainfall 922.1 mm, 8% above normal

MUMBAI – India received 9.8 millimetres of rainfall Saturday, a whopping 138% above the normal of 4.1 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. As of Saturday, the country has received 922.1 millimetres of rainfall so far this monsoon season, 8% above the normal for the period, according to the data.

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received above normal rainfall Friday and two recorded below normal showers. Rainfall over south India was a whopping 222% above normal at 16.7 millimetres. Central India also witnessed intense showers of 15.0 millimetres Saturday, 275% above normal, the data showed. However, northwest India recorded 34% below normal rains of 0.7 millimetres. East and northeast India got 17% below normal rains at 7.5 millimetres, as per the data.

Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 17, "excess" in one, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in four. Seven sub-divisions received no rainfall.  End
