MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department expects extremely heavy rainfall over parts of west India such as Konkan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch till Monday. The bureau has issued a red alert for parts of Konkan and ghat areas of central Maharashtra till Monday. A red alert indicates rainfall exceeding 204.5 millimetres in 24 hours and is the highest level of weather warning.
IMD has also issued a red alert for south Gujarat for Sunday and for Saurashtra and Kutch for Monday and very heavy rain is expected to continue over the region on Tuesday as well. The bureau also expects very heavy rainfall over southern Gujarat Monday.
The bureau forecast very heavy rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Thursday and Friday.
In east and central India, very heavy rainfall is seen over southwest Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on Saturday and heavy rainfall is expected in the region on Sunday as well. Similar weather conditions are likely over other parts of east and central India till Friday. Thunderstorm and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-50 kilometres per hours are very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jharkhand, and Odisha till Wednesday and over West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar during the next seven days.
Very heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala, Telangana, and north interior Karnataka Saturday, the weather bureau said. Strong surface winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kilometres per hour is very likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema during next five days. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely over Uttar Pradesh till Sunday and over east Rajasthan in the next seven days.
IMD said that conditions are not favourable for further withdrawal of monsoon over the next seven days. End
